A Few Pictures.From Summer's End

The house with first floor walls in place, ready for the beams to go in.

It's almost sculptural.

Not bad weather for building either..

Looking good! Can you offer any comments on why you chose Abbey Peynford for your foundations and SIPS @ Clay for the house? How did the costs work out compared with a more conventional building method?

I am a from Edinburgh Napier University, currently on my final year. I am carrying out a research for my dissertation, researching general public knowledge on possibilities of self-build and “green” methods of construction. I would like to send you a short questionnaire. Please contact me on:

Hi there,

My name's Chris, and I work for Build It & Home Improvement magazine. I'm currently looking for candidates for a self-build blog to print as a short monthly column in each issue of Build It.

As a heads-up on what we'd be looking for, the column would be written in the present tense, but we'd need to start at the very beginning (ie finding the plot would probably be the first piece). We'd need to print at least one (more likely two) images per column. Each 'blog' would probably be around 200 words in length, and would cover a brief summary of what's happened 'that month', with probably one aspect looked at in a little more depth.

If you're interested in pursuing this opportunity, please do get in touch on chris.bates@oceanmedia.co.uk

Best wishes,

Chris

Hi, I saw your post about photo print quality and I have a question for you. My friend and I are trying to figure out what the best options are for him to print large photos so that he can sell to people. Right now he has an HP OfficeJet that gives him about 23 8.5x11" photo quality, 300DPI prints for about $20 (U.S...~13 pounds) bucks for the color cartridge. He would like to print off some larger prints, lets say up to 16x20 or even larger. The resolution of his camera is 4272x2848 (12.1 megapixel)..the Canon XSi Rebel. What would be a reasonable rate per picture if he would order 5 -16x20 prints shipped to Alaska? He is trying to make some money on the side to support his family by selling the prints.
He looked into buying an Epson R2880 printer that is able to print up to 11-17" x 13-19" images, but my question is always...is it going steal my money when buying more ink for it. Is there a better printer out there that produces excellent photos, while not breaking the bank relative to ink usage.
